If you haven’t heard of Tash Oakley then you’ve clearly not been spending enough time on Instagram. She’s the Australian entrepreneur who’s made a life out of travelling the world and getting snapped in her bikini. Tash is one half of duo A Bikini A Day, who alongside her best friend and business partner Devin Brugman, gives followers exactly that – one bikini, 365 days a year.
Tash Oakley grew up on Bronte beach in Australia and in 2012, found herself in LA, producing shoots for her production company, alongside bestie Devin. Tash was the photographer and videographer and Devin worked as the assistant. Whilst they were on the other side of the camera shooting models, they themselves would also be in swimwear. In between takes they would photograph each other and from there A Bikini A Day was born. Quickly rising to fame in the social media world, the pair have since spent their days globe-trotting in their favourite swimwear. Whilst it might seem like a glamourous lifestyle, they argue that most of the time they’ve got laptops in hand, running their businesses A Bikini A Day, Monday Swimwear and Monday Active. Today the A Bikini A Day brand has attracted more than 650,000 followers and has made Tash and Devin household names.
Proving that her star is on the rise, Tash recently swapped bikinis for underwear when she was announced as the new face of Bonds Mash Up campaign, showcasing the brands’ new hipster range of underwear. She follows in the footsteps of a long list of esteemed Bonds girls like Miranda Kerr, Ruby Rose and Kelly Gale. They say you are the company you keep and if that’s the case, Tash is definitely rubbing shoulders with the right crowd.
It’s hard not to be envious of a girl like Tash, with her all-year-round tan and show stopping good looks. However, life isn’t always a beach for the social media entrepreneur, with her having experienced the dark side of fame recently. When paparazzi shots of Tash circulated the Internet and she was body shamed by a journalist, she took to Instagram to tell her 1.9M followers that we should be proud of our bodies, and that it is something to be celebrated and not criticised. It’s statements like this that make it clear that Tash is more than just good looks.
If you could live anywhere in the world where would it be?
Probably somewhere in Italy. I honestly can not get enough!
If you could tell your 15 year old self one thing, what would it be?
Not to be so hard on myself, and to never judge a book by it’s cover.
What are you most afraid of and how do you overcome your fears?
Honestly, snakes. And I’m not planning on overcoming that anytime soon haha. Apart from that, I like to think I’m pretty fearless.
You’re always happy and smiling in your pics. Are there ever times when you don’t feel that way (and maybe wish you didn’t have to put on a brave face for social media)?
Sometimes life can get pretty full on, and traveling so much can feel a little exhausting at times, but I generally am a really happy person and genuinely love what I do – so what you see is what you get with me =)
What’s your advice to young people who are thinking about starting their own business?
Make sure you’re doing it for the right reasons and know that you have to have a good work ethic and a lot of passion to create your own successful business. Also, patience is key, so don’t be disheartened by the journey, you have to be resilient.
